Privacy Policy

YT2PDF is a Chrome extension for exporting YouTube captions. The extension and this website handle information differently. The extension processes transcripts in your browser; submitting a website contact form sends the information you enter to our contact-form provider.

How the Chrome extension handles transcripts

  • ✓ The content script and transcript-response hook can initialize when you open a YouTube page; transcript export is started when you request it.
  • ✓ Transcript extraction uses captions supplied through YouTube while you are viewing a video.
  • ✓ Transcript formatting and export happen in your browser.
  • ✓ The extension does not upload extracted transcripts to a YT2PDF-operated server.
  • ✓ Transcripts can be held temporarily in the active tab's memory so you can copy or export them.
  • ✓ Files are saved to your device only when you choose to export them.

What the extension does not do

No transcript account

You do not need to register or sign in to YT2PDF to extract a transcript.

No YT2PDF transcript database

The current extension does not upload or store transcript contents on a YT2PDF server.

No extension advertising SDK

The extension currently does not integrate its own advertising or analytics SDK.

YouTube requests still happen

The extension uses YouTube's transcript features and existing network responses. YouTube handles those requests under its own privacy terms.

Website contact forms and third parties

If you use our Contact or Services form, you submit details such as your name (when requested), email address, service type and message. These are processed by Formspree, our third-party form provider, so we can respond. Do not include sensitive information in your message. Formspree may process technical request details as described in its privacy policy. Visiting the Chrome Web Store or YouTube also involves those services and their own policies. Uninstalling the extension may open an optional Google Forms feedback page; you do not have to submit feedback.

How transcript export works

  1. 1. Open a YouTube watch video with an available transcript.
  2. 2. Click Get Transcript; the extension uses YouTube's transcript interface and data returned to your browser.
  3. 3. Choose Copy or an export format such as PDF, DOCX, Text, Markdown or JSON.
  4. 4. Exported files stay on your device unless you choose to share them.

Chrome extension permissions

The extension requests permissions to:

  • ✓ Access YouTube pages and read available transcript data.
  • ✓ Use scripting to observe YouTube transcript responses within the current page.
  • ✓ Use tab permissions to identify and communicate with the selected YouTube tab.
  • ✓ Write to your clipboard only when you choose a Copy action.

Chrome controls these permissions. The extension does not need access to unrelated websites.

Your choices

You control whether to export transcripts or provide contact details:

  • ✓ You can stop using or uninstall the extension at any time.
  • ✓ You can choose not to send a contact or feedback form.
  • ✓ If you sent a contact form and have a question about your submitted information, reach us through the Contact page.
  • ✓ For details about Formspree's handling of submissions, see its privacy policy.

Changes to this policy

If we change the way the extension or website handles information, we will update this page and the date below.
